DHANIESHA

"Hiya, I'm Dhaniesha a year 12 student who initially brought this group together in support for indigenous societies in Australia. I knew of the Indigenous community and their immaculate culture and creativity during Suncorp super Netball's indigenous round in 2020. With that, I gauged and witnessed the unequal opportunities and segregation  that the indigenous society received when watching Jemma Mi Mi, the only indigenous member of SSN's 2020 season get benched during the indigenous round. After being brought to light of this "minority" community and their exquisite talents, I got really interested in the history behind Aborigines and found that the segregation and inequities have been a predominant issue. Intrigued by the vibrancy of this community I stumbled upon Naidoc week, a week of celebrating the history, culture and achievements of the indigenous society in Australia. Which then led me to the idea of running during Naidoc week to raise funds for the literacy of Aborigines. Alongside this , knowing that we are based in Singapore, I really wanted us to be able to associate our location to Australia thus making the running goal 4,370km. With our eagerness to involve our creativity and raise the most funds we can, I decided we can run a merchandise shop alongside our fundraising walkathon. Wanting to do something that I haven't really seen, I thought of reversible masks with dual filters which make it safe to use either side. Uniting with my team, we then came up with other things to put in our merchandise shop such as scrunchies and much more that will come along the way.  More details on merchandise will be in the shop section and on the running section for the way to enter our Strava community. Do feel free to drop a dm or email anytime. I hope you support us in raising funds for the ILF whether just as a runner, donations or buying our products. A little goes a long way. Much love x"

"Hello, I’m Ian a year 12 student who is a part of organising this event for supporting the indigenous society in Australia. I was greatly inspired by Dhaniesha’s idea and decided that I wanted to be part of the project instantly. In nowadays society, although many rights were ‘returned’ to minority groups, there is still segregation and acts of inequality present. I hope through this project the indigenous children can receive good education and obtain more opportunities for them to show the world their fascinating and unique culture"

"Hii, I’m Carina. I’m a year 12 student who is organizing a fundraiser with my friends to support the indigenous communities in Australia. We were very inspired by the idea that Dhaniesha came up with to support the indigenous communities in Australia and the unique culture that they have, so we decided to create a project which will take place in NAIDOC week where funds will be raised for the indigenous communities to gain access to a better education. In order to do so, we will be selling merchandise and also hosting a walking/ running club. We hope you will support us!"

"Hi !! My name is Javier and I am a year 12 student who is part of this project IN supporting the indigenous society in Australia. When I first heard of this idea, I was not really sure of this Aboriginal community. Hence I went to search and read up more on this community and get to know more about it. After getting to know more about the Aboriginal community, I told Dhaniesha that I wanted to be part of the project so that we can help to raise awareness for this Aboriginal community and that we can educate people around the world about their cultures. From this project, I hope that we can raise funds for the Aboriginal community by selling merchandise such as masks and scrunchies. We hope that you will support us!!"
